Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has just announced a wage increase for all categories of workers in the state, as well as pensioners.

Speaking at a meeting with labor leaders on Monday, November 6, 2023, Governor Makinde said that all workers will receive a N25,000 wage award, while all pensioners will receive a N15,000 wage award.

The Governor said that the new wages will take effect with the October 2023 salaries, and that workers will receive their wage awards on or before Friday, November 10, 2023.

Governor Makinde also announced that the arrears of the September 2023 salaries will be paid within the next two weeks.

In addition, the Governor said that he will meet with labor leaders again before March 2024 to discuss an acceptable minimum wage for the state.

The news of the wage increase has been met with jubilation by workers and pensioners in the state, who have been struggling to make ends meet due to the rising cost of living.
