Kano APC Calls for Fasting After Appeal Court Victory
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has called on all its members and all traders who lost fortunes to the government-led demolition of illegal structures in the state to fast today, as a show of gratitude for the party’s victory at the Court of Appeal on Friday.
The party’s chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, made the call in an audio message to the party’s loyalists, urging them to pray fervently for the Supreme Court to uphold the Court of Appeal’s ruling.
The APC’s call for fasting comes after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) announced that he would be challenging the Court of Appeal’s judgment at the Supreme Court.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor said that he has instructed his lawyers to appeal against the judgement, adding that he is optimistic that “the Supreme Court will by the grace of Allah set aside these miscarriages of justice by the tribunal and Court of Appeal and reaffirm his mandate given by the people of Kano State.”
The Court of Appeal had earlier this month ruled that Governor Yusuf’s election was invalid and ordered a fresh poll. The governor has since maintained that the election was fair and credible, and that the Court of Appeal’s ruling was a miscarriage of justice.
The Supreme Court is expected to hear the appeal in the coming weeks.
