The Federal Government has launched a probe into allegations of misused funds within the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

This was revealed in a release by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, addressing the circulating narratives surrounding payments made by the ministry into a private account.

“The government takes these issues very seriously,” he emphasized. “President Tinubu is committed to transparency and accountability, and we assure Nigerians that any wrongdoing will be investigated thoroughly and addressed decisively.”

The directive follows widespread public concern sparked by online reports about the alleged payments. In response, the government has pledged a comprehensive investigation to determine the accuracy of the claims.

“We understand the public’s concern,” Minister Idris acknowledged. “Therefore, we want to assure everyone that the investigation will be fair and unbiased. The findings will be shared transparently with the public as soon as they are available.”

While the investigation unfolds, the Ministry of Information and National Orientation urges Nigerians to remain patient and avoid speculating on unverified information. Instead, they encourage citizens to rely on official channels for updates and accurate details.

“The Ministry of Information and National Orientation remains the primary source for verified information about the actions of the Federal Government,” the statement stressed.

It will be recalled that the Minister of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu came under harsh criticism after a leaked memo on December 20, revealed that she directed the Accountant-General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein, to transfer N585m to a private account owned by one Oniyelu Bridget, who the ministry claimed currently serves as the Project Accountant, Grants for Vulnerable Groups.
