JUST IN: NBTE Scraps Computer Science Program
…..to Focus on Emerging Tech Skills
In a move to align with the ever-evolving tech landscape and better equip graduates for national development, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has announced a major shakeup in computer science education.
Starting from the 2024/2025 academic session, the traditional Computer Science program will be unbundled, replaced by four distinct, specialized tracks:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI): Dive into the world of intelligent machines and machine learning.
- Networking and Cloud Computing: Master the art of building and securing interconnected networks and cloud infrastructures.
- Software and Web Development: Craft the software and websites that power the digital world.
- Cybersecurity and Data Protection: Become a guardian of the digital realm, protecting data and systems from cyber threats.
“This decision reflects the rapid changes in the tech industry,” explained NBTE Executive Secretary Prof. Idris M. Bugaje.
“By offering specialized tracks, we’re ensuring our graduates possess the cutting-edge skills employers desperately need.”
Current Computer Science students will have until 2025 to complete their programs under the old curriculum, but new admissions will only be accepted in the four new tracks. This transition period allows institutions to adapt their programs and prepare for the new era of specialized tech education.
