Pastor Adeboye Slams Wedding Makeup: ‘You Are Perfectly Made by God’
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has expressed strong disapproval of the practice of women wearing makeup for their weddings, describing those who engage in such practices as lacking wisdom.
During a ministers’ conference held at the RCCG National Convention on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Pastor Adeboye criticized the trend of altering one’s appearance for the wedding day, suggesting that it reflects a deeper dissatisfaction with God’s creation.
“It wasn’t so in the beginning,” Pastor Adeboye remarked, urging a return to traditional values.
“When you marry, you cut your coat according to your clothes. If you believe it or not, a very wealthy family came all the way from America to conduct the wedding of their daughter in my office in Ebute-Metta, and they were blessed. Everything started and ended in my office. They had their baby within months.”
Pastor Adeboye voiced his concerns about the growing commercialization of weddings within the church, arguing that the resources spent on extravagant celebrations could be better utilized for more meaningful causes, such as supporting children’s education.
He expressed frustration with the increasing trend of expensive photo shoots and elaborate decorations, asserting that such practices reflect a lack of faith in the perfection of God’s work.
“Some of you want to be like the people of the world. I can’t even imagine some of the things I see now. People spend hundreds of thousands of naira on ‘shoot out’ (photo shoots). And then on the day of the wedding, the girl puts on all manner of decoration,” he said, emphasizing the misplaced priorities in modern weddings.
“Those who do make-up are those who do not believe God did a good job. When God created you, He did a great job—you are wonderful, perfectly made, and you cannot find any other fellow like you. You are special,” Pastor Adeboye declared, underscoring the belief that God’s creation is flawless and needs no enhancement.
