The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering Nigerian youths through job creation and capacity building in the automotive sector, particularly in compressed natural gas (CNG) technology.
At a recent two-day conference in Abuja, Honourable Titilope Gbadamosi, Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives, emphasised the government’s dedication to harnessing youth potentials and career prospects in the CNG conversion value chain.
Gbadamosi stressed that the Office of Youth Initiatives is focused on preparing young Nigerians for career opportunities in the CNG sector.
She noted that with appropriate training, adherence to regulatory standards, and sector-wide collaboration, Nigeria’s transition to CNG could reduce reliance on imported fuels and create sustainable economic opportunities for youths.
Hon. Sunday Dare, former Minister of Youth and Sports, and Ayo Olawande, Minister of State for Youth Development, corroborated Gbadamosi’s sentiments. They highlighted the importance of harnessing local expertise in CNG technology to drive growth and development.
Prof. Idris Bugaje, Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), was also present at the conference. The event aimed to promote career prospects and skills development in the Nigerian automotive sector.
In line with President Bola Tinubu’s vision, the government has commenced training programmes for auto technicians on the conversion of petrol-powered vehicles to CNG-powered vehicles.
The two-day training programme, held at the NADDC Automotive Training Centre in Ado-Ekiti, focused on capacity building and skills upgrades for technicians and youths.
Oluwemimo Osanipin, Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), stated that the council collaborated with Lanre Shittu Motors to provide skills development and training.
Osanipin emphasised the importance of engaging world-class OEMs to introduce the best conversion solutions in the country.
He also highlighted the creation of a CNG conversion portal for registration, accreditation, and licencing of workshops in Nigeria.
The training program was well-attended by dignitaries, including Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, Commissioner of Infrastructure and Public Utility, and Otunba Kayode Fasae, Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment.
The training aligns with the presidency’s plan to create more jobs and reduce unemployment. By investing in CNG technology, Nigeria can reduce its reliance on imported fuels and create sustainable economic opportunities.
