Agbaje Celebrates 2024 International Day of the Girl, Calls for Focus on Girls’ Vision for the Future
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Barr Akeem Agbaje, has joined the global community in celebrating the 2024 International Day of the Girl, emphasizing the need for urgent action to prioritize the welfare and future of the girl child. This year’s theme, ‘Girls’ Vision for the Future,’ reflects the power of young girls’ voices and the importance of their vision in shaping a better tomorrow.
In a statement issued by his Media Office in Ibadan on Thursday, Agbaje reiterated his commitment to the cause of the girl child, noting that the future of society depends largely on how well the rights, education, and welfare of young girls are safeguarded.
“On this International Day of the Girl, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and vision of girls across the globe. This year’s theme, ‘Girls’ Vision for the Future,’ speaks to the urgency of taking action to ensure that every girl is empowered to realize her full potential and contribute to building a brighter, more equitable world,” Agbaje said.
He highlighted the need for government and civil society to work together to eliminate barriers that limit opportunities for girls, particularly in the areas of education, health, and safety. Agbaje called for continuous investment in programs that foster the growth and development of girls, stressing that their empowerment is key to sustainable development.
“Girls are the future of our nation and the world. Their voices and vision should be at the forefront of decision-making processes. We must create environments that not only protect their rights but also provide the tools they need to dream, lead, and succeed,” Agbaje stated.
“As we celebrate this day, we must recognize the need for continuous advocacy and action. The challenges girls face are significant, but with sustained commitment and collaboration, we can create a world where every girl has the opportunity to thrive.”
He urged young girls to remain hopeful and steadfast in their dreams for a better future, encouraging them to continue to raise their voices and push for the changes they wish to see.
“As we mark this day, I want to remind every girl that her voice matters. Your vision for the future is powerful, and together, we will build a society where every girl’s potential is realized, and her dreams are fulfilled,” Agbaje concluded.
Agbaje further called on policymakers, parents, and communities to support initiatives that prioritize the welfare and empowerment of girls, ensuring they have access to the resources and opportunities needed to achieve their goals.
