Pornography Consumption Among Young Adults

Are you aware that the increase in consumption of pornography through the use of the internet is becoming a very big problem in our society?

Pornography is a printed or visual material containing the explicit description on display of sexual organs or activities intended to stimulate sexual excitement.

Research shows that this is as a result of trying to defend themselves against excessive stress, anxiety, depression and identity crisis.
However, the lack of quality sex education for young people leads to them looking for information elsewhere hence, they get exposed to the wrong sexual information online.

When you as a parent give an android phone to your child/children and also give them access to the internet without proper monitoring, proper guidance, and education about the proper use of the internet, abuse is inevitable.

The key messages:
1.Nearly half of children between the age of 9-16 experience regular exposure to sexual images.
2.Young males are more likely to seek out pornography and do so frequently.
3.It can shape sexual practices like wanting to explore anal sex and other unsafe sexual escapades.
4.It encourages violence against women
5.It affects their mental health among others…

The best approach to dealing with it is for parents, caregivers and teachers to encourage open communication, discussion and critical thinking on the part of the children.

Most adults spend a substantial amount of their day on the internet. Some may be busy scrolling through different posts/messages, some may be sending emails, some may be doing research etc and through this they can get exposed to nude pictures or pornographic contents and if care is not taken, the more they see and engage with this contents, the more the internet will keep suggesting more of similar contents to them and as a result of this addiction is also inevitable.

The key messages:
1.It can negatively impact relationship(s).
2.Porn is very addictive and can be very difficult to quit.
3.Porn can fuel violence and abuse like dehumanizing others, assaults and rape…
4.Porn harms sexual function and make people more sexually illiterate.
5.Porn can change a consumer’s brain.
6.Porn can fuel mental health issues.
7.It can stimulate increase in sex trafficking
8.It represents unrealistic perception of a second person as a sexual object.
9.Erectal problems may occur when real life sexual stimulation does not match the broad content accessible online.

In conclusion, pornography is harmful to consumers, relationships and society at large. If you want to live a healthy and fulfilling life and a life that is free from contributing to sexual exploitation, kindly avoid porn.
