INSECURITY: All 38 Kwara Worshippers Freed, 51 Niger Students Recovered — President Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed the rescue of 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State, and the recovery of 51 missing students of a Catholic school in Niger State, praising the efforts of the nation’s security agencies and assuring Nigerians that operations will continue until every citizen is safe.

In an address to the nation on Sunday, the President said he had cancelled his scheduled trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa to provide direct coordination for ongoing security operations at home. He noted that security agencies had worked around the clock in recent days to secure breakthroughs in both incidents.

According to the President, the successful rescue in Kwara and the recovery of students in Niger State reflect improving collaboration among security units and renewed determination to confront banditry and abductions across the country.

The President said he is monitoring developments in all affected regions and continues to receive real-time updates from frontline commanders. He offered reassurance that his administration will not slow down its efforts to restore peace in communities facing criminal threats.

He stated that every Nigerian, regardless of location, is entitled to safety and dignity and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to securing all parts of the country.

In his words, “My fellow Nigerians,

You will recall that I cancelled my trip to the G20 summit in South Africa to enable me coordinate the security efforts at home.

Thanks to the efforts of our security forces over the last few days, all the 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State have been rescued.

I am equally happy that 51 out of the missing students of the Catholic School in Niger State, have been recovered.

I am closely monitoring the security situation nationwide and receiving continuous updates from the frontline.

Let me be clear: I will not relent. Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety — and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people.”
