Barr Akeem Agbaje Celebrates Women on Mother’s Day, Says Nigeria’s Future Rests on Empowered Mothers
Barr. Akeem Adedeji Agbaje, chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a leading aspirant for the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, has joined the rest of the world in celebrating women on the occasion of Mother’s Day, describing mothers as the unsung architects of a prosperous Nigeria.

In a warm and heartfelt message issued from Ibadan on Sunday, Agbaje paid glowing tribute to mothers across Oyo State and the nation at large, acknowledging their immeasurable contributions to family life, community development, and national progress.

“Every stable home, every successful child, every thriving community bears the fingerprints of a mother. Today, we pause to honour the women who sacrifice so much, demand so little, and give everything, the mothers of our nation.”
The legal luminary and three-time gubernatorial aspirant used the occasion to also reflect on the role of women in shaping Oyo State’s social and economic fabric, noting that any government serious about development must place women at the centre of its agenda.

“As I look towards 2027 and the opportunity to serve the good people of Oyo State, I am reminded that no administration can truly succeed without harnessing the full potential of our women, our mothers, our teachers, our entrepreneurs, our community leaders.”
Barr Akeem Agbaje, who is a former Chairman of the Ibadan branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and a scion of the respected Agbaje family of Ayeye Compound, Ibadan, called on governments at all levels to translate rhetoric into action by implementing concrete policies that support women, from affordable maternal healthcare and quality education for the girl-child, to economic empowerment programmes and protection from gender-based violence.
”We cannot continue to celebrate women only on designated days while our policies fail them the rest of the year. If we are serious about a better Oyo, a better Nigeria, we must be intentional about investing in women.”
The APC chieftain also took a moment to honour the personal sacrifices of mothers, describing them as society’s first responders, educators, and moral compasses.
“Behind every man or woman of character is a mother who prayed, who laboured, who believed when no one else did. To all the mothers in Oyo State and across Nigeria, we see you, we honour you, and we are committed to building a society worthy of your sacrifices.”
