‎JUST IN: President Tinubu Drops Finance Minister Wale Edun, Taiwo Oyedele Takes Over

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle in the Federal Executive Council, resulting in the exit of two key ministers: Mr. Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and Architect Ahmed Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

The development was announced on Tuesday through a statement by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). A memo signed by SGF Senator George Akume named their replacements and directed immediate handover processes.

‎According to the memo, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State in the Finance Ministry, will take over as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele, a respected economist, accountant, and tax reform expert, is expected to build on ongoing fiscal and economic initiatives.

For the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD) has been named as the ministerial nominee and minister-designate.

The directive states that all handing over and taking over processes must be completed on or before the close of business on Thursday, 23rd April 2026.

‎Explaining the rationale behind the changes, Senator Akume said the reshuffle is aimed at “strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He added that President Tinubu exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) in approving the changes.

‎The President thanked the outgoing ministers, Wale Edun and Ahmed Dangiwa, for their dedicated service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours. He also assured all cabinet members that the process of reinvigoration and strengthening of the team would be continuous.

This minor reshuffle comes as part of efforts to optimise government performance midway into the administration, with a focus on delivering tangible results in economic management and housing development.

‎The affected ministers are expected to complete a smooth transition within the stipulated 48-hour window. Further details on the swearing-in of the new appointees are expected in the coming days.
