Oyo Central APC Primary: Why AWA Still Stands Out Amid Growing Concerns Over Process
As political discussions continue to trail the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for Oyo Central Senatorial District held yesterday, many party faithful and observers across the district have maintained that Dr. Ademola Wasiu Alli (AWA) remains the most acceptable and grassroots-oriented aspirant in the race.

Although the official result of the exercise is yet to be formally released, developments surrounding the conduct of the primary have continued to generate widespread reactions among party members, especially over allegations of planned irregularities, voter suppression, and the disenfranchisement of genuine delegates and stakeholders in several areas.

It has been argued that the atmosphere leading to the primary and reports emerging from different local governments suggested that the process may have been tilted against the popular will of party members who had openly aligned with the aspiration of the former Chief of Staff to the Oyo State Governor.
Across the eleven local governments that make up Oyo Central Senatorial District, Dr. Alli had, over the months, built strong connections with party leaders, youths, women groups, professionals, and grassroots mobilisers through consultations and issue-based engagements centered on representation, empowerment, and inclusive development.

Many party faithful believe that his wide acceptability and political reach posed a major challenge within the contest, as his campaign continued to gain momentum ahead of the direct primary election.
Political observers noted that beyond the controversies trailing the exercise, AWA’s popularity among ordinary party members remains evident, especially considering the level of support and solidarity expressed by APC members before and during the primary.
Some stakeholders who spoke after the exercise described Dr. Alli as “the people’s choice,” insisting that any process that does not genuinely reflect the mood of party members across the district would leave questions in the minds of loyal APC supporters.
Despite the concerns raised, AWA has continued to maintain calm and restraint, while urging his supporters to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and committed to the progress and unity of the APC in Oyo Central and beyond.
