Northern Senators Caution ECOWAS: Seek Peaceful Means, Not Military Force, to Restore Democracy in Niger Republic
The Northern Senators Forum, led by Senator Abdul Ahmad Ningi, has issued a cautionary statement to the ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) led by President Tinubu, urging against resorting to military force in restoring democracy in Niger Republic. Instead, the senators advocate for the utilization of political and diplomatic means to address the situation.
According to the senators, the use of military force could lead to the tragic loss of innocent lives in Niger Republic. Additionally, the seven neighbouring Nigerian states, namely Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Zamfara, Jigawa, Yobe, and Borno, which share borders with Niger Republic, would bear negative consequences if such measures were taken.
The senators emphasized that military force should only be considered as a last resort, once all other recommended avenues have been exhausted. They expressed concern over potential casualties among innocent citizens who are going about their daily lives, underscoring the importance of seeking peaceful solutions in the restoration of democracy in Niger Republic.
