Former Kaduna lawmaker Shehu Sani criticizes linking Anambra student’s forgery confession to 2023 election fallout

Most Nigerians are now wearing ethno religious and political sunglasses….

Former Kaduna lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has criticized those who are connecting the confession of Anambra student, Mmesoma Ejikeme, regarding her forgery of the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result to the aftermath of the 2023 election.

The Anambra State Government committee of inquiry, established to investigate the controversy surrounding the JAMB results, found Mmesoma guilty of forging her result without any assistance.

Sani took to Twitter to express his thoughts on the matter, stating that the crime committed by Mmesoma has become a topic of political discussion, fueled by the fallout of 2023 election. While many individuals are engaged in conversations about forgery, Sani suggests that their true motivations lie in politics. He argues that Mmesoma’s offense coincided with a time when people are actively seeking reasons to perpetuate verbal conflicts.

The former senator also highlighted the role of ethnicity in publicizing the issue, emphasizing that if the same forgery had occurred in the northern part of the country, it would not have garnered as much attention. In support of his point, Sani cited a case in which a woman allegedly stabbed her husband in Bauchi, which received little interest because it did not involve individuals from the eastern or western regions.

He believes that Nigerians have become inclined to view everything through the lens of ethnicity, religion, and politics, and this perspective is likely to persist for an extended period.

Sani concluded his tweet by suggesting that Mmesoma’s case is emblematic of the broader societal divisions, wherein people wear ethno-religious and political “sunglasses” that color their perceptions of events. He predicts that this mindset will continue to shape public discourse and interactions for a considerable time.
