Ondo Governor Akeredolu Back in Office After Prolonged Medical Leave
Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has officially resumed duty after a prolonged medical vacation in Germany.
In a statement on Friday, September 8, 2023, Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly Olamide Oladiji said the governor’s letter notifying the assembly of his resumption was received during a parliamentary meeting.
“The governor resumed duty today, Friday, 8th September 2023,” Mr Oladiji said.
He expressed appreciation to God for bringing the governor back home hale and hearty.
He noted that the entire state’s people were glad to see the governor back in office.
Mr Akeredolu had announced on June 7, 2023, that he was embarking on a 21-day medical trip to Germany to attend to his fragile health.
However, his prolonged stay abroad caused heavy controversy and political bickering, especially among members of the cabinet who are eyeing the seat of power in the state.
On July 15, the governor immediately announced that his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, should take over the affairs of the state in an acting capacity pending his resumption.
The governor’s return is a relief to many in the state who were concerned about his health and the political situation in the state.
In a statement, the governor thanked the people of Ondo State for their prayers and support during his absence.
