First Lady Provides Financial Support to Widows and Orphans of Fallen Heroes

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), has provided a total of N427.75 million in financial support to 1,709 widows and orphans of fallen heroes from the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The donation was made at a ceremony held in Abuja on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Each beneficiary received N250,000 as part of RHI’s social investment program aimed at advancing the welfare of vulnerable groups in Nigeria.

In her remarks, Senator Tinubu emphasized the challenges faced by the wives of gallant soldiers, highlighting the uncertainties and sacrifices their breadwinners make in defending the country. She called on stakeholders to support the dependants of fallen soldiers.

“The wives of our fallen heroes are the unsung heroes of this country,” she said. “They have sacrificed so much, and we must do all we can to support them.”

Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, expressed gratitude for the thoughtful gesture, stating that the financial support brings renewed hope to the families of fallen heroes and boosts the morale of serving Armed Forces members.

“This donation is a testament to the First Lady’s compassion and commitment to the welfare of our military personnel and their families,” he said. “We are deeply grateful for her support.”

Beneficiaries, drawn from various military associations, including NAOWA, NOWA, NAFOWA, POWA, and DEPOWA, received the donation with joy and appreciation.

“This is a huge blessing for me and my children,” said one beneficiary. “My husband died in the line of duty, and I have been struggling to raise my family since then. This money will go a long way in helping us.”

The First Lady’s donation is a timely intervention that will bring much-needed relief to the families of fallen heroes. It is also a reminder of the importance of supporting our military personnel and their families.
