Chief Akande is our Bridge to Awolowo – Barr Akeem Agbaje
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Barrister Akeem Agbaje has felicitated with former Osun State governor, Chief Adebisi Akande on the occasion of his 85th birthday. In his goodwill message, he described him as a bridge to the late sage and Premier of Old Western region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
“Indeed it is heartwarming to celebrate a man like baba Adebisi Akande. Baba is many things rolled into one, combining all roles with immaculate excellence; a political titan, excellent administrator, consummate professional and elderstatesman. For us the younger generation, he is our bridge to baba Awolowo.
He is one of the last if not the last of those that worked closely with Awolowo, and learning from him is akin to learning from the late sage himself.
Baba’s role in the birth and growth of our party cannot be over-emphasized. When it was just a new baby, baba held it, wrapped it in the democratic ideals and ensured it thrived. Today, our party has grown in leaps and bounds, from mere opposition party to ruling party.
I join scores of people thanking God for Baba Akande’a life. I pray Almighty Allah grants him many more years as the nation needs his wealth of experience as she seeks to navigate this challenging period.”
