Gov Adeleke Vows to Crackdown on Renewed Ifon/Ilobu Violence, Warns Sponsors and Traditional Rulers
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has issued a stern warning to those behind the resurgence of violence in the Ifon/Ilobu area, vowing to punish them to the full extent of the law. In a virtual security meeting that continued into the early hours of today, Governor Adeleke declared that security forces have been deployed to de-escalate the situation and apprehend the perpetrators.
“We will not spare any sponsors of this dastardly act,” Governor Adeleke stated. “Any traditional ruler found to be fanning the flames of violence will be removed from office.” He further disclosed that intelligence is being gathered to determine the level of culpability of prominent leaders from both areas.
The Governor, who is currently attending a national minimum wage meeting in Abuja, emphasized that he has already issued directives to calm the situation and that security teams have been working throughout the night to restore peace. He promised further measures to be announced soon, reiterating that “this time around, those involved will pay the price in line with the law of the land.”
Governor Adeleke’s strong stance comes after renewed clashes between the Ife and Modakeke communities in the Ifon/Ilobu area, leading to casualties and property damage. The cause of the latest flare-up remains unclear, but the Governor’s message suggests a zero-tolerance approach towards those responsible for disrupting the fragile peace in the region.
The Governor’s words have been met with mixed reactions. Some residents have expressed relief and hope that the promised crackdown will deter future violence. Others remain skeptical, urging the authorities to ensure fairness and transparency in their investigations and actions.
