Transforming Awareness into Action: Hon Titilope Gbadamosi Unveils Nigeria’s Youth Empowerment Blueprint for SDGs
Hon Titilope Gbadamosi, Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives (Monitoring and Delivery), delivered a goodwill message during the 2024 International Youth Day celebration.
Speaking on the theme “From Awareness to Action: Empowering Youth in Nigeria for SDGs,” she emphasized the pivotal role of young Nigerians in driving sustainable development and transforming the nation’s future.
The event, organized by the Network of Youth for Sustainable Development Goals (NGYouthSDGs) in collaboration with Oxfam in Nigeria, was a fitting occasion for Ms. Gbadamosi to highlight the government’s ongoing efforts under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda
“This theme aligns deeply with my role as the Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives, a role that allows us to contribute directly to the vision of our President,” she stated.
Since assuming office, Hon Gbadamosi has focused on expanding collaborative partnerships, developing and implementing programs that enhance educational opportunities, vocational training, and entrepreneurial skills, and rigorously assessing the impact of these initiatives.
“Our approach is not just about creating awareness; it is about moving from awareness to meaningful action,” she emphasized.
She also used the platform to present detailed overview of the various initiatives aligned with the SDG goals, including the Nigerian Youth Academy (niya.ng), SUPA Initiative (supa.itf.gov.ng), NELFUND (nelf.gov.ng), Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (bit.ly/NYIF-APPLY), NITDA (nitda.gov.ng), and NASENI (naseni.gov.ng). These programs, she explained, are designed to empower young Nigerians with the skills, resources, and opportunities needed to drive sustainable development in the country.
In addition to these initiatives, she mentioned that her office has held town hall meetings in states such as Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, and Katsina, alongside numerous X Spaces (formerly Twitter) sessions with stakeholders, to engage with youth and inform them about the opportunities available to them. These engagements, she noted, are crucial in enlightening the youth about the myriad of opportunities available to them.
As the world commemorates International Youth Day, the Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives (Monitoring and Delivery), urged young Nigerians to take proactive steps in seizing these opportunities. “It is not enough to be aware; we must act. The future of Nigeria depends on the actions we take today.”
Hon Titilope Gbadamosi concluded with a call to action, inspiring youth to participate actively in building a more sustainable and prosperous Nigeria, aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
