Oyo APC Appoints Alhaji Moshood Olayide Abas as Acting Chairman
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has appointed Alhaji Moshood Olayide Abas as its acting chairman, following the death of the party’s former chairman, Barrister Isaac Omodewu. This announcement was made today by the APC’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, in a statement issued to journalists in Ibadan.
Alhaji Abas, who previously served as the Deputy State Chairman of the party, was ratified as the acting chairman during an emergency meeting of the State Executive Committee held at the Oke-Ado State Secretariat of the APC. The meeting was convened to fill the leadership vacuum created by Omodewu’s demise.
“Following the transition of our former state chairman, Barr. Isaac Omodewu, the Constitution of our great Party has placed on us an onus to fill the vacuum by elevating the Deputy State Chairman to the post of Acting Chairman, and this is exactly what the State Executive Committee did at an emergency meeting earlier today,” the statement read.
Alhaji Abas is a well-respected figure within the APC, with a long history of service both as a professional and a politician. A certified pharmacist, Abas began his political career with the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in the 1970s, under the mentorship of the late Chief Bola Ige. In 1991, he became the Executive Chairman of the old Ifeloju Local Government Area, which was later divided into Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Local Government Councils.
His service record extends to the Oyo State Hospital Management Board, where he was appointed chairman during the first term of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi. Abas has also held several party leadership positions at the state level, serving under the defunct Action Congress (AC) and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) between 2004 and 2009.
