Ogo Oluwa Local Government Chairman Hon Ojo Seun Adesoye Champions Legislative Training to Drive Effective Governance at the Grassroot
The legislative council of Ogo Oluwa Local Government, in a historic initiative, has commenced a three-day visit to the National Assembly in Abuja. This pioneering program, the first of its kind among Nigeria’s 774 local governments, aims to deepen the legislators’ understanding of legislative proceedings, including the intricacies of roll calls, orders of the day, bill presentation, motion procedures, and the integration of modern technology to enhance legislative processes.
The training, organized under the leadership of Hon Ogunkanmi Rotimi Ezekiel, Leader of the Ogo Oluwa Local Government Legislative Council, seeks to equip council members with firsthand knowledge of the practices and protocols of the National Assembly.
Hon Ogunkanmi expressed optimism about the council’s opportunity to learn from the national legislative framework, noting, “This visit marks an important milestone for our local government. By learning from the structures and strategies employed at the National Assembly, we hope to strengthen our own legislative capabilities and serve our community more effectively.”
Chairman of Ogo Oluwa Local Government, Hon Ojo Oluwaseun Adesoye, commended the initiative, highlighting its alignment with the council’s commitment to progressive governance and capacity building.
“Our administration has always placed a high priority on knowledge and skills development,” said Hon Adesoye.
“By equipping our legislators with enhanced legislative skills, we are investing in a future where grassroots governance is both impactful and aligned with modern standards.”
During the visit, council members are participating in hands-on sessions covering topics such as bill drafting, motion initiation, and the structured use of technology in legislative activities. These areas of focus will be instrumental in empowering the legislators to make informed decisions that benefit the people of Ogo Oluwa and set a benchmark for local government councils across the country.
