The Fight Against Gender-Based Violence: A Call to Action by Hon Mrs Ojo Damilola Omolola

As we gather here today, I want to acknowledge the countless women and girls who have suffered in silence, who have been marginalized, and who have been denied their basic human rights.
Gender-based violence is a pandemic that knows no borders, no culture, and no socio-economic boundaries. It is a scourge that affects women and girls from all walks of life, and it is our collective responsibility to confront it head-on.

As a community, we must recognize that gender-based violence is not just a women’s issue; it is a human rights issue. It is a matter of justice, equality, and dignity.
We must also acknowledge that gender-based violence is often perpetuated by harmful social norms, cultural practices, and power imbalances. It is our duty to challenge these norms, to promote gender equality, and to empower women and girls to claim their rights.
As the chairman’s wife, I am committed to using my platform to amplify the voices of survivors, to support initiatives that promote gender equality, and to advocate for policies that protect women and girls from violence.
To the survivors of gender-based violence, I want to assure you that you are not alone. Your story matters, your voice matters, and your life matters. We believe you, we support you, and we will stand with you every step of the way.
To the perpetrators of gender-based violence, I want to say that your actions will no longer be tolerated. We will hold you accountable, we will bring you to justice, and we will ensure that you face the full consequences of your actions.
To my fellow community members, I urge you to join me in this fight against gender-based violence. Let us work together to create a society that values equality, justice, and human rights for all.
Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can create a world where women and girls can live free from fear, free from violence, and free to reach their full potential.
Thank you.
