Ibadan Stampede: Court Grants Ooni’s Ex-Wife, Oriyomi Hamzat, Fasasi Bail
An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has granted bail to Naomi Silekunola, a former wife of the Ooni of Ife, along with two other defendants, in a case involving alleged manslaughter. The court set bail at N10 million each for the three individuals, who are standing trial over the tragic deaths of 35 children during a stampede at a Christmas funfair in 2024.
The ruling was pronounced by Justice Kamorudeen Olawoyin of the Oyo State High Court, on Monday.
The other defendants granted bail are Oriyomi Hamzat, a broadcaster and CEO of Agidigbo Radio FM, Ibadan, and Abdullahi Fasasi, the school principal of Islamic High School, Orita Basorun, where the incident occurred on December 18, 2024.
The defendants are accused of negligence leading to the stampede, which caused the deaths of the children who were attending the event at the school premises.
