Tanker Explosion: Federal Fire Service Mandates Anti-Spill Locks for Fuel Tankers
The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has issued a directive requiring all vehicles transporting flammable substances to be equipped with Anti-Spill Locks. This measure aims to prevent fuel spillage during accidents, reducing the risk of explosions and fire outbreaks.
The announcement was made by the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Mr Jaji Abdulganiyu, during the inauguration of a six-week training course for Chief Superintendents of Fire in Sheda, Abuja.
Mr Abdulganiyu emphasized that most fire incidents are preventable and stressed the urgent need for fuel tankers to adopt essential safety mechanisms. “The installation of Anti-Spill Locks is a critical step in mitigating the dangers associated with fuel transportation,” he stated.
As part of efforts to address tanker explosions, the Controller General revealed that he recently engaged the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to explore practical solutions to recurring challenges in fuel transportation safety. This collaboration aims to enhance safety protocols and reduce fire-related accidents on Nigerian roads.
The Controller General reiterated the Federal Fire Service’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property through proactive measures and continuous capacity development. “Our goal is to create a safer environment by equipping our officers with the skills and tools needed to manage fire emergencies effectively,” he said.
