Trump Threatens 100% Tariffs on BRICS Nations Over Dollar Rivalry

US President Donald Trump has reiterated his threat to impose 100% tariffs on BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—if they attempt to create a rival currency to the US dollar. The warning comes as a February 1 deadline approaches for imposing 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico over immigration and fentanyl concerns.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump declared, “The idea that the BRICS Countries are trying to move away from the Dollar, while we stand by and watch, is OVER.” He added, “We are going to require a commitment from these seemingly hostile Countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty US Dollar or, they will face 100% Tariffs.”

Trump’s comments on BRICS nations coincide with his earlier threat to impose 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico by February 1 unless they take stronger action to curb illegal migration and the flow of deadly fentanyl across the US border.

Similarly, Trump has threatened China, a key BRICS member, with an additional 10% levy on goods starting February 1. This move is in response to the US-China trade imbalance and China’s alleged role in the US fentanyl supply chain.
