Ibadan Airport Upgrade Enters Second Phase with New International Terminal

The second phase and foundation-laying ceremony for the construction of a new international airport terminal at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan was held yesterday, marking a significant milestone in the airport’s expansion plans. The event was officiated by Hon Abimbola Adekanmbi, Chairman of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport Upgrade Committee.
Hon Adekanmbi revealed that the new terminal, once completed, will have the capacity to handle 1,000,000 passengers annually—a tenfold increase from the current capacity of 100,000 passengers at the existing terminal. This upgrade is expected to transform the airport into a major hub for domestic and international travel, boosting economic activities in the state and beyond.

The project is part of broader efforts to modernize infrastructure in Oyo State, under the leadership of the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde. The new terminal will feature state-of-the-art facilities designed to enhance passenger experience and meet international aviation standards as well as stimulate economic growth by attracting more businesses, investors, and tourists to the state.
Hon Adekanmbi emphasized the Oyo State government’s commitment to delivering the project on schedule and ensuring it meets the needs of travelers and stakeholders. “This new terminal is a testament to our dedication to improving infrastructure and positioning Ibadan as a key player in Nigeria’s aviation sector,” he said.
