NIS to Launch Contactless Passport Application System in Europe, UK, and Ireland on Friday

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the rollout of its contactless passport application system in Europe, the United Kingdom, and Ireland, starting tomorrow, Friday, February 7, 2025. This initiative follows the successful launch of the system in Canada on November 5, 2024, and aims to simplify passport renewal and application processes for Nigerians in the diaspora.

The contactless system, available on the Google Play Store as the NIS Mobile app, allows Nigerians to renew their passports without visiting a passport center for biometric enrollment. NIS Comptroller General Kemi Nanna Nandap emphasized that the initiative is designed to provide seamless and efficient service delivery to Nigerians worldwide.

“This initiative will enable Nigerians in the diaspora to apply for and renew their passports online from the comfort of their homes,” Nandap stated during a courtesy visit to the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in Abuja.

The contactless system represents a significant advancement in travel document management, offering a secure and convenient solution for Nigerians abroad. Dabiri-Erewa praised the initiative, stating, “The launch of the contactless passport application solution in Europe is a significant step towards efficient, secure, and convenient travel document management for Nigerians in the diaspora.”

The NIS reiterated its commitment to leveraging technology to enhance service delivery.
“The Service reiterates its commitment to innovative and efficient service delivery to Nigerians anywhere in the world,” said NIS spokesman AS Akinlabi in a statement.

NiDCOM pledged its continued support for the initiative, with Dabiri-Erewa affirming, “NiDCOM will continue to support, monitor, and collaborate with the NIS to ensure the success of this initiative.”
