Macron to Trump: Peace Must Not Mean to Surrender Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron has emphasized that any peace deal must not come at the cost of Ukraine’s sovereignty, warning against a world where the “law of the strongest” prevails. Speaking at a joint press conference with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday, Macron reaffirmed France’s support for Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity.

“This peace cannot mean the surrender of Ukraine,” Macron stated. “Ukraine has fought over these past few years for its independence and sovereignty, but also for our collective security.”

The French leader cautioned against a world where international borders can be violated at will, stressing that no one should accept a global order dictated by force.

Macron’s remarks come as the Trump administration engages in diplomatic talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, seeking to accelerate an end to the war. The conflict began three years ago when Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

In a notable departure from his predecessor Joe Biden’s stance, Trump is advocating for a United Nations resolution aimed at ending hostilities. However, unlike previous US policy, the proposed resolution does not explicitly uphold Ukraine’s territorial integrity, raising concerns among European allies.
