Chaos at Ikeja Electric as Air Force Officers Assault CEO, Staff Over Power Cut

There was chaos at the headquarters of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) on Thursday as personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) allegedly attacked the facility and assaulted the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Folake Soetan, following the disconnection of electricity supply to the NAF logistics base in Ikeja over unpaid bills.

According to eyewitnesses, the officers, enraged by the power cut, stormed the IKEDC premises, demanding immediate reconnection despite the reported outstanding debt and allegations of electricity theft. The situation quickly escalated, with the NAF personnel reportedly breaking down doors in search of the CEO.

When they found Mrs. Soetan, the officers allegedly assaulted her and forced her into the trunk of a vehicle within the premises.

A similar incident was recorded at Ikeja Electric’s business unit on Ago Palace Way, Okota, Isolo, Lagos, where armed military personnel were seen assaulting staff members. A viral video circulating online shows over seven staff members kneeling on the ground while others were physically assaulted, as armed officers patrolled the premises.

The attack comes barely a day after Ikeja Electric disconnected power supply to the NAF logistics base in Ikeja due to accumulated unpaid bills and allegations of electricity theft.

At the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Nigerian Air Force or Ikeja Electric regarding the incident.
