Communal Dispute: Adeleke Relaxes Curfew in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun Communities

In response to the recent communal clashes among the Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun communities, Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced a relaxation of the previously imposed 24-hour curfew. Effective Friday, March 28, 2025, the curfew will now be enforced from 2 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily, allowing residents a seven-hour window to attend to essential activities.

The decision aims to alleviate the hardships faced by the residents of these communities, enabling them to address immediate needs while maintaining public order. Governor Adeleke commended the reduction in hostilities but expressed concern over reports of continued violence, including a recent fatality. He emphasized that law enforcement agencies have apprehended a suspect in connection with the incident and reiterated his administration’s commitment to holding perpetrators accountable.

To ensure sustained peace, the Governor has directed the joint security task force to maintain 24-hour surveillance in the affected areas, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy for any acts of lawlessness. Additionally, the Osun State Emergency Management Agency has been instructed to intensify support services for displaced individuals, including the establishment of holding camps to provide shelter and relief materials.

The communal conflict, rooted in longstanding land disputes, has led to multiple casualties and significant property damage in recent weeks. The state government initially imposed a 24-hour curfew to curb the violence and prevent further escalation.

Governor Adeleke continues to urge all community members to embrace peace and cooperation, emphasizing that his administration remains committed to restoring harmony and ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents in Osun State.
