FG Inaugurates Renewed Hope Health Connect Committee to Bridge Healthcare Gaps in Nigeria

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has inaugurated the management committee for the Renewed Hope Health Connect (RHHC), a nationwide medical outreach programme targeting the most vulnerable Nigerians.

The initiative, which will be implemented in 55 senatorial districts across the country, aims to address persistent gaps in healthcare access, especially in rural and hard-to-reach areas. At the inauguration ceremony held in Abuja, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, emphasized the urgency of reaching communities still plagued by a lack of basic health infrastructure, trained professionals, and essential medical supplies.

“These areas often suffer from high maternal and child mortality rates and the spread of preventable diseases. The Renewed Hope Health Connect programme is a strategic intervention to reverse this trend,” the Minister said.

He further revealed that the programme has been captured in the proposed 2025 national budget, signaling the Federal Government’s strong commitment to sustainable healthcare development.

Chaired by Dr. Adekunle Salako, the RHHC Management Committee comprises top officials including departmental directors, representatives of the Office of the Coordinating Minister, the National Eye Health Programme Coordinator, and senior technical assistants. Dr. Charles Nzelu, Director of the Special Duties Department, will serve as the Committee Secretary.

According to a statement by Alaba Balogun, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations at the ministry, the committee’s mandate includes overseeing outreach implementation in all selected districts, ensuring equitable distribution of medical resources, evaluating programme outcomes, and fostering collaboration with NGOs, local health agencies, and community leaders.
