Oyo 2027: Senator Buhari Signals Exit from Senate, Declares Governorship Interest

Senator Fatai Buhari, who currently represents Oyo North Senatorial District, has announced he will not seek re-election to the Senate in 2027, ending a legislative career that spans over 16 years. The three-term senator and ranking lawmaker made the declaration during an interview on Parrot FM 101.1 in Ogbomoso.
“This is my third time as a Senator and my fourth time in the National Assembly. I am a core legislator and I have done it to the extent that I am happy,” he said.

Signaling a shift in his political ambition, Sen Fatai Buhari expressed his interest in contesting the Oyo State governorship seat if his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) makes the race open.
“If you have been as privileged as I have, quit when the ovation is loudest and let someone else go and do it,” he noted, stressing that he would rather support one of his trusted associates to succeed him in the Senate. “That is my plan. That is leadership.”
