FG Unveils Plan for 77,400 Social Housing Units Nationwide

…. Launches Renewed Hope Cities in Lagos, Abuja, Kano
The Federal Government, in a move to address Nigeria’s housing deficit, has announced the rollout of 77,400 social housing units across the country under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The initiative also includes the construction of Renewed Hope Cities in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano.
This was made known by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Yusuf Ata, in a statement highlighting the ministry’s drive to provide affordable housing and improve urban development across Nigeria.

According to Hon. Ata, the Renewed Hope Cities will comprise 3,000 housing units each in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano, while the 77,400 social housing units will be spread across all 774 local government areas, with 100 units per LGA.
“Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, we are constructing 3,000 housing units each in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano, and 250 units in each of the 36 states for Renewed Hope Estates,” he said. “Additionally, the social housing initiative will deliver 77,400 housing units nationwide.”
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering mass housing through strategic partnerships and investments. During a meeting with representatives of Ms Allen Le and Partners International Investment Consulting Joint Company, he expressed willingness to collaborate with the private sector to meet the national housing goals.
“We welcome potential collaboration with Ms Allen Le and Partners in achieving this goal,” Ata said, adding that the ministry would require formal proposals detailing the nature and scope of such partnerships.
A notable component of the housing plan is its prioritization of vulnerable Nigerians. “Thirty per cent of the 77,400 social housing units will be allocated to non-income Nigerians,” Ata revealed. He further commended President Tinubu for insisting on the 30 per cent allocation, even when a lower figure was suggested.
The visiting delegation, led by Allen Ke Nam of SV-NED Incorporated, expressed interest in investing in affordable housing and requested government support in the form of land provision. Nam said the collaboration would generate jobs, encourage skill acquisition, and introduce new construction technologies to Nigeria.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Shuaib Belgore, described the initiative as timely and crucial, pledging the ministry’s full support to drive the success of the public-private collaboration.
