June 12: Arisekola Alao Celebrates 26 Years of Democracy, Calls for Unity and Support for Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda

Hon. Umar Farouk Arisekola Alao, Ibadan North Federal Constituency Hopeful , has joined Nigerians across the country to commemorate the 26th anniversary of Nigeria’s return to democratic rule, describing it as a time for reflection, renewed patriotism, and collective resolve to build a better nation.

In a statement issued to mark the June 12 Democracy Day celebration, Arisekola Alao hailed the resilience of Nigerians and honoured the memories of the heroes and martyrs who sacrificed their lives to ensure the restoration of democracy.


“June 12 is not just a date; it is a symbol of our enduring struggle for justice, equity, and the voice of the people. We must never forget the courage of those who stood firm in the face of oppression so that today’s democracy could stand.”

Arisekola Alao emphasized that 26 years of unbroken democracy is a milestone worthy of celebration, but also a reminder of the need to work collectively to protect and deepen democratic values across all levels of governance.

“As we commemorate this significant anniversary, I urge Nigerians to embrace unity, peace, and love for the greater good of our nation. Democracy thrives best when people are committed to national harmony and responsible citizenship.”

He also called for continued support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the administration’s efforts to consolidate democratic gains through reforms, national economic recovery, and institutional stability as “timely and necessary.”

“President Tinubu’s administration has demonstrated unwavering commitment to strengthening our democracy and repositioning the country. The Renewed Hope Agenda must be supported by all well-meaning Nigerians so that the progress recorded can be sustained and multiplied.”

“Our democracy must work for the people. Through effective representation, inclusive policymaking, and responsive governance, we can ensure that no Nigerian is left behind in the democratic journey.”
