JUST IN: Super Falcons Make History with Stunning Comeback to Win 10th WAFCON Title

Nigeria’s Super Falcons etched their name further into African football history on Saturday night with a sensational 3–2 comeback victory over host nation Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), claiming the title for a record 10th time.
The match, played at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, began with a fiery start from the Moroccan team, who took a two-goal lead within the first 25 minutes. Ghizlane Chebbak opened the scoring in the 12th minute, followed by a well-taken strike from Sanaâ Mssoudy in the 24th, sending home fans into raptures.

However, the Super Falcons, undeterred by the early deficit, launched a spirited second-half response that changed the tide of the game. Esther Okoronkwo reignited Nigeria’s hopes in the 64th minute with a composed finish from the penalty spot after a foul in the box.
Momentum swung Nigeria’s way as Folashade Florence Ijamilusi equalised in the 71st minute with a superb effort, setting the stage for a dramatic finale.

With just two minutes left in regulation time, Jennifer Echegini delivered the decisive moment, firing in the winner in the 88th minute to seal a remarkable 3–2 victory and trigger scenes of celebration among Nigerian supporters.
The Super Falcons outshone their North African opponents statistically as well, with 14 shots to Morocco’s 10, five of which were on target. Nigeria also held a slight edge in possession with 55%, completed 280 passes with 69% accuracy, and earned five corners to Morocco’s three.
With this hard-fought triumph, the Super Falcons have completed Mission X, becoming the first African team to win the WAFCON championship ten times, reaffirming their dominance on the continent and inspiring a new generation of female footballers across Africa.
