WAFCON: President Tinubu Confers National Honour, Cash Gifts, and Apartments to Super Falcons

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on Nigeria’s Super Falcons, following their triumphant performance at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they clinched the nation’s 10th continental title.

At a special reception held in their honour on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, President Tinubu lauded the team’s commitment, resilience, and the inspiration they continue to provide to millions of Nigerians, particularly young girls.

“In recognition of your extraordinary achievement, and on behalf of a grateful nation, I hereby confer on each of you, the 24 players and the 11-man technical team, the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger,” the President declared.

Beyond the honours, Tinubu announced generous rewards for the team members:

Each of the 24 players will receive the naira equivalent of $100,000,

The technical crew will receive $50,000 each,

And all will be allocated a three-bedroom apartment.

“I have received this trophy on behalf of all Nigerians, and I say to you: thank you for your dedication, passion, and for reminding us of the strength of the Nigerian spirit.”

“You have inspired millions, especially young girls who now see the proof that their dreams are valid and achievable,” he said.

Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, also announced a donation of ₦10 million to each player and technical staff on behalf of the 36 governors.

Speaking on behalf of the team, captain Rasheedat Ajibade thanked the President for the recognition and support. She dedicated the WAFCON trophy to all Nigerians, especially the young girls who dream of playing football professionally. “Our goal is to be the best women’s team in the world,” she stated, urging for continued and increased support for women’s football in the country.

The Super Falcons’ latest victory marks a record 10th WAFCON title, a feat that cements Nigeria’s status as a dominant force in African women’s football.
