Eyewitness Report: Progressives YES Forum Conference Thursday, 31st July 2025 International Conference Center, Ibadan, Oyo State – Adeyinka Silas

On Thursday, 31st July 2025, the International Conference Center in Ibadan played host to the highly anticipated Progressives YES Forum Conference. The event was notably well attended, drawing virtually all the major progressive leaders in Oyo State. For those unable to be physically present, capable representatives ensured their voices and perspectives were well represented, underscoring the unity and commitment within the progressive camp.

A central theme of the conference was a resounding call to revitalize the progressive ethos that was originally championed by the legendary Chief Obafemi Awolowo, subsequently handed over to Chief Bola Ige, and further solidified by the great Lam Adesina. This enduring legacy was passionately echoed by all distinguished leaders of the APC in attendance, signaling a renewed dedication to the foundational principles that have long guided progressive politics in the state.

Among the notable contributions during the program was the statement from the Party Chairman, Alhaji Olaide Abass. He declared that a new dawn has begun for APC in Oyo State, emphasizing that the new leadership at the national level in Abuja has expressed a strong readiness to collaborate closely with Oyo APC to enshrine party supremacy. This assurance was met with enthusiastic approval from attendees, reflecting optimism about the party’s future trajectory.

Dr. Esan also made a significant remark, highlighting the need to reassess the party’s reward system. Her observation pointed to the importance of recognizing and incentivizing contributions within the APC to foster greater motivation and loyalty among members.

Recommendations:
This eyewitness, after speaking with a number of attendees of the conference, recommends that there is the urgent need to establish a clear progressive ethos within the APC in Oyo State, starting with the selection of a unifying rallying figure. This individual should be someone who has risen through the political ranks by serving the progressive cause, either as a high-ranking party executive member or a senior elected officer.

After careful consideration, four individuals were identified as fitting these criteria: Baba Akin Oke, Barrister Iyiola Oladokun, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, and Engineer Rauf Olaniyan. Each of these leaders is recognized for their proven integrity, wisdom, and sacrifice, as well as their ability to command respect among state leaders, national figures, and party members alike.

In conclusion, the Progressives YES Forum Conference marked a pivotal moment for the APC in Oyo State. With a renewed commitment to the progressive ideals of Awolowo, Ige, and Lam, and a clear path forward in leadership selection, the party appears poised to strengthen its influence and effectiveness in the coming years. The atmosphere was one of hope, determination, and unity—a promising sign for the future of progressive politics in the state.
