Bye-Election: Group Urges Electorate to Reject Makinde’s Candidate and See Beyond His Greek Gift

The Media Campaign Team of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in tomorrow’s bye-election has urged the people of Ibadan North Federal Constituency to reject what it described as a last-minute “Greek gift” by Governor Seyi Makinde and to vote for genuine representation.

In a statement signed by Hon. Monsuru Adeyemo (Socrates), spokesperson of the APC Media, Publicity and Strategy Committee, the party accused the governor of engaging in desperate tactics by distributing palliative items, particularly rice, across the 12 wards of the constituency on the eve of the election.

The statement alleged that the rice in question had been in storage for over two years, raising questions about its suitability for consumption. It argued that such an action was both unhealthy and politically manipulative.
“Our people must see beyond this Greek gift. This is not about rice; it is about the future of our constituency. We must refuse to trade our health, dignity, and progress for temporary handouts that serve only political interests,” the statement read.

The APC described the move as a clear attempt to influence voters and impose an unqualified candidate on the constituency, calling it “a dangerous trend that undermines democratic values.”
According to the statement, leadership should be earned through competence, service, and vision.
“This election is an opportunity to send a strong message. We must choose a representative who will work for sustainable development and genuine empowerment, not one imposed through manipulation. Let us reject any attempt to buy our votes with items that will not solve our long-term problems.”
The party called on voters to participate actively in tomorrow’s poll, stand for integrity, and choose a future built on transparency and accountability.
