Ibadan Airport to Resume Domestic Flights in October – Hon Bimbo Adekanmbi

The Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport, Alakia, Ibadan, which has been undergoing major upgrades and reconstruction, will resume domestic flight operations in October 2025.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Airport Upgrade Committee, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, during an inspection tour of the facility. Speaking with BCOS News, Adekanmbi noted that the ongoing works were part of efforts to raise the airport to international standards and position it as a hub for relaxation and tourism.

He explained that while domestic flights would begin in October, international flight operations were scheduled to commence by the middle of 2026, following the completion of the new tarmac.

“The additional world-class facilities being put in place will not only enhance air travel but also boost the state’s economy by attracting investment, trade, and tourism,” Adekanmbi stated.

Governor Seyi Makinde, who is currently on leave, was reported to have made an unscheduled visit to the airport to personally assess the pace and quality of work being done. The Governor’s inspection, despite his leave, was described as a sign of his commitment to ensuring the success of the project.

The upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport is expected to open new economic opportunities for Oyo State and the wider South-West region.
