Former Oyo Commissioner Abimbola Adekanmbi Resigns from APC

Former Oyo State Commissioner for Finance and Deputy Chief of Staff under the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, Mr. Abimbola Adekanmbi, has officially resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking the end of a significant political era for one of the party’s long-standing figures in the state.

Adekanmbi, who also contested as a senatorial aspirant under the APC in the 2023 general elections, made his resignation known through a letter addressed to the Chairman of Ward 1, Ibadan North East Local Government Area, where he is a registered member.

In the letter, Hon. Adekanmbi did not disclose the specific reason for his departure from the party but described the decision as a deeply reflective one, symbolising the closure of a major phase in his political journey that began with the formation of the APC.
“I hereby formally tender my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC). This marks the close of a significant chapter in my political journey, one that began from the very inception of the party,” the letter read in part.

He expressed gratitude for the privilege to serve under the banner of the party and contribute to the growth and development of Oyo State, noting that his political experience within the APC had been defined by both “growth and challenges.”
“Through seasons of growth and challenge, I have remained steadfast in my commitment, and I am grateful for the honour to contribute, in my own way, to the service and progress of our dear Oyo State.”
Hon. Adekanmbi, who currently serves as Chairman of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport Upgrade Committee, also acknowledged his collaborations with various leaders and members of the party at different levels, describing the relationships and shared experiences as “memorable and invaluable.”
The former commissioner’s resignation comes amid heightened political realignments and internal recalibrations within the APC in Oyo State, especially as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While Adekanmbi has not disclosed his next political move, his exit is expected to stir conversations within the state’s political landscape, given his influence and reputation as a technocrat and loyal party stalwart during the Ajimobi administration.
