AWA Visits Oyo NUJ Press Centre, Pledges Support for Media Development
Dr. Ademola Wasiu Alli (AWA), a seasoned administrator, philanthropist, and aspirant for the Oyo Central Senatorial District, has paid a courtesy visit to the historic Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Ibadan, regarded as the first press centre in Nigeria and the headquarters of the South West region.

Dr. Alli was accompanied by a broad delegation comprising past local government chairmen, former supervisory councillors, youth leaders, women leaders, and other political stakeholders drawn from across the Oyo Central Senatorial District, reflecting the depth of support and wide grassroots connection associated with his political movement.

He and his team were received by the Oyo State NUJ Chairman, Akeem Abas, alongside members of the state executive council and national representatives of the union.
Speaking during the visit, James Adeleke, former Chairman of Oluyole Local Government and a member of AWA’s delegation, commended the media for its enduring role in national and state development, urging journalists to remain steadfast in upholding the ethics of the profession.

“The press remains central to the growth of any society. You must continue to uphold truth and professionalism, regardless of pressure or inducements from desperate political actors.”
Hon. James Adeleke also spoke on the character and contributions of Dr. Alli, describing him as a community driven leader with a track record of service.
“AWA is a man of the people, humble, God-fearing, and committed to humanity. Through the AWA Foundation, he has supported education, healthcare, artisans, and petty traders. His experience and exposure at the highest levels of the federal civil service position him well to deliver meaningful development.”
In his remarks, Dr. Alli acknowledged the strategic role of the media as the bridge between government and the people, noting that a gap often exists in communication that must be addressed by trained professionals.
“There is often a disconnect between the government and the governed, and it is the responsibility of the media, as the fourth estate, to bridge that gap through timely and accurate information.”
He further spoke on his experience as a chartered accountant and administrator who has served at top levels across federal ministries, expressing confidence in his ability to attract meaningful development to his constituency through experience, exposure, and established networks.
As part of his support for the NUJ, Dr. Alli pledged to take responsibility for refurbishing the entrance of the Press Centre, with a view to improving its outlook.
Responding, Comrade Akeem Abas appreciated Dr. Alli and his team for the visit and their commitment to supporting the media. He also outlined ongoing efforts by the union to reposition the press centre through digital transformation, training initiatives, and improved online presence, including plans for radio and television platforms.
