The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election, Hon. Umar Farouk Arisekola-Alao, has expressed sadness over the passing of veteran journalist, renowned Ibadan historian, and Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, Alhaji Lekan Alabi.

The death of the respected journalist and traditional title holder was announced in a statement issued by the Media Aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Adeola Oloko.

He noted the deceased’s distinguished career in journalism and public service, particularly his service as Press Secretary to several former governors of Oyo State. According to Arisekola Alao, Alhaji Lekan Alabi brought professionalism, knowledge, and a deep understanding of Ibadan history and culture to his various responsibilities.

“Alhaji Lekan Alabi was a distinguished journalist, historian, administrator, and custodian of the rich history and heritage of Ibadanland. His contributions to journalism and public service, as well as his efforts to preserve and promote the history and culture of our great city, will remain part of his enduring legacy.”

‎Arisekola Alao also commiserated with the Olubadan-in-Council, the family of the deceased, the Ibadan traditional institution, members of the journalism community, and all those who mourn his passing. He prayed that Almighty Allah would forgive his shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
