Democracy Day: Asukuna Advocates Awareness, Unity, and Civic Engagement

Hon. Ikumogunniyi Biodun Asukuna, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and 2027 House of Representatives aspirant for Ibadan North West and Ibadan South West Federal Constituency, has described June 12 as a landmark moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey and a reminder of the sacrifices made by pro-democracy activists and citizens in the struggle for civil rule.

‎In his Democracy Day message, he commended Nigerians for their resilience in sustaining democratic governance, noting that the progress recorded over the years reflects collective sacrifice, patriotism, and commitment to national unity.


He congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as one of the leading figures in Nigeria’s democratic struggle, noting that his contributions remain significant in the nation’s democratic history.

Hon. Asukuna also praised the President’s administration for its ongoing efforts under the Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that the reforms are aimed at repositioning the economy, strengthening governance, and improving the welfare of citizens in the long run.

‎He called for continued support, patience, and cooperation from Nigerians across all sectors, emphasizing that sustained progress and improved dividends of democracy require unity of purpose and collective responsibility.

He called on the National Orientation Agency to intensify public enlightenment efforts to deepen awareness of government programmes and policies, noting that improved civic understanding will strengthen participation and national development.
