Hon. Ikumogunniyi Biodun Asukuna, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and 2027 House of Representatives aspirant for Ibadan North West and Ibadan South West Federal Constituency, has expressed deep sadness over the passing of Alhaji Lekan Alabi, a respected Ibadan chief, veteran journalist, historian, and distinguished custodian of Yoruba heritage and culture.

‎Chief Lekan Alabi, who was the Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, was reported dead in a statement issued by the Media Aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Adeola Oloko. His death, according to Asukuna, represents a significant loss to Ibadanland, Oyo State, and the wider Yoruba community.

Hon. Asukuna described the late chief as a man whose life brought together journalism, traditional leadership, history, and cultural advocacy, noting that his deep knowledge of Ibadan history and traditions made him an important voice in the preservation and promotion of the identity and heritage of the ancient city.

‎“Chief Lekan Alabi was not only a distinguished journalist and historian, but also a respected Ibadan chief who dedicated his life to documenting our history, preserving our cultural heritage, and promoting the values and traditions of our people. His contributions will remain part of the enduring history of Ibadanland.”

‎He noted that Alhaji Alabi’s wealth of knowledge, command of Ibadan history, and years of service to journalism and the traditional institution earned him a special place among those who contributed to the intellectual and cultural development of Ibadanland.

The APC chieftain commiserated with the family of the deceased, the Olubadan-in-Council, the Ibadan traditional institution, the journalism community, and the people of Ibadan, praying that Almighty God grant the late chief eternal rest and give his family, colleagues, and associates the fortitude to bear the loss.
