JUST IN: 39-Year-Old OAU Prof Emerges New JAMB Registrar

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed a 39-year-old Professor of Computer Engineering, Segun Aina, as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, succeeding Is-haq Oloyede whose tenure expires on July 31, 2026.

The appointment was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, Professor Aina, who will turn 40 in July, is regarded as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in the field of Computer Engineering. He is expected to assume leadership of the nation’s examination body with a strong background in technology, digital infrastructure, and institutional reform.

Aina obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also attended the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.

Currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Aina reportedly began his association with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained experience in examination administration and admissions processes.

The Presidency noted that the new JAMB Registrar has over 15 years of post-graduation experience spanning technology, policy development, and institutional transformation. He has also served as a consultant to examination bodies such as National Examinations Council and National Business and Technical Examinations Board, providing expertise in ICT systems and examination integrity.

‎Professor Aina is a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed confidence that Professor Aina would build on the achievements recorded under the leadership of Professor Oloyede and further strengthen the operations of the examination body.
