Children’s Day: APC Candidate Arisekola Alao Advocates Safe Learning Environment, Prioritises Child Protection

Hon. Umar Farouk Arisekola Alao, APC candidate for Ibadan North Federal Constituency and former Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Oyo State, has called for urgent and coordinated action to create a safer and more enabling environment for children across Nigeria, warning that recurring incidents of violence are increasingly instilling fear in pupils, students, and educators.

In a statement marking this year’s Children’s Day celebration, Arisekola Alao said the occasion should serve not only as a moment of reflection on the importance of children in society but also as a call to intensify efforts toward safeguarding their future and well-being.

He noted that persistent security challenges in some parts of the country are gradually eroding the confidence of children to attend school freely, while also affecting the peace of mind of parents and teachers.

‎According to him, education remains a critical foundation for national development, adding that no society can achieve meaningful progress when children are exposed to fear and uncertainty in learning environments.

Arisekola Alao also expressed deep concern over the reported abduction of children and parents in the Ahoro–Esinle axis, urging both federal and state authorities to strengthen collaboration and intensify rescue operations to ensure the safe return of all victims.

“As we celebrate Children’s Day, our thoughts must also be with those whose safety and freedom have been compromised. The situation in Ahoro–Esinle is deeply troubling, and I call on relevant authorities to act swiftly and decisively to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted children and their parents,” he said.

He urged the Federal and Oyo State Governments to deepen synergy in addressing security challenges, stressing that protecting children must remain a top national priority.

Arisekola Alao further called for sustained investment in security infrastructure, community protection systems, and educational safety measures that would restore confidence in schools and learning environments across the country.

‎He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to advocating for policies that protect children and secure their future, while expressing solidarity with families affected by insecurity.
