Democracy Day: June 12 Symbolises Sacrifice, Courage and Democratic Resilience — Arisekola Alao
Hon. Umar Farouk Arisekola Alao, APC candidate for Ibadan North Federal Constituency and former Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Oyo State, has joined Nigerians in commemorating Democracy Day, describing June 12 as a defining moment in the nation’s democratic journey and a reminder of the sacrifices made by pro-democracy activists and citizens in the struggle for civil rule.

In a statement, Arisekola Alao said June 12 remains a symbol of courage, resilience, and the collective determination of Nigerians to uphold democratic values, justice, and popular participation in governance.

He congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, whom he described as one of the leading figures in Nigeria’s democratic struggle, noting that his contributions to the restoration and sustenance of democracy remain significant in the country’s political history.
“June 12 reminds us of the sacrifices made by countless patriots who stood firmly in defence of democracy and the will of the people. It is also an opportunity to acknowledge the role played by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other pro-democracy advocates whose commitment helped shape the democratic freedoms we enjoy today.”

Arisekola Alao further commended the Tinubu administration’s efforts to reposition the country through the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the ongoing economic and governance reforms are aimed at laying a stronger foundation for national growth, stability, and prosperity.
While acknowledging the challenges associated with reform processes, he urged Nigerians to continue supporting the administration and remain patient as the government works towards delivering lasting benefits to the people.
“The task of nation-building requires collective sacrifice and cooperation. I urge Nigerians to continue supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda so that together we can consolidate on our gains, deliver more dividends of democracy, uplift our communities, strengthen our economy, and secure a better future for our children.”
